Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if a spot needs to be checked?
If you are worried about it, have it checked. If something on your skin has changed in appearance, size, color, shape, gets tender, has an irregular border, is increasing in size or frequently itches, you should have it evaluated.
I had a melanoma skin cancer removed three years ago. How often do I need to see a dermatologist?
You should have a total body skin exam by a dermatologist at least once a year, or sooner if you notice a change in a spot or a mole.
I have a tattoo that I want removed. Will Dr. Brenden do this?
No, you would want to see a dermatologist who does laser treatments.
I have a spot on my arm that just appeared a week ago. It doesn't itch or hurt, but I'm afraid it might be a skin cancer. Should I go see Dr. Brenden?
A: If you have no prior history of skin cancer, give it a month to resolve. If it goes away, you will have saved yourself a trip to the doctor. However, if it persists, by all means schedule an appointment for evaluation. Most common skin cancers are very slow-growing; however, if a lesion has not resolved or has worsened in two months, it should be evaluated.
